"They were animals, I thought they were going to kill him": Marc, beaten up in Annecy (74) for refusing to give him a cigarette; another man was reportedly the victim of the same individuals

Violent, unprovoked assault in Annecy's old town. On the night of Wednesday, August 27th to Thursday, August 28th, around 4 a.m., a 27-year-old man was beaten by two individuals. The incident occurred on Place Saint-Claire, near the Chez Monique restaurant.
[…]"They were immediately aggressive. My son told them he didn't want any trouble. He turned his back on them and left, walking quickly, without running, so as not to stir up the situation. When he arrived at Place Sainte-Claire, he was punched in the back of the head," said the victim's mother, Karine Zerbola, manager of the Buvette du Marché in the old town.
His son Marc fell to the ground, held down by his attackers, who delivered a second violent punch to the back of his neck. Curled up, the young man tried to protect his head and face as best he could, while a hail of punches and kicks rained down on him. "They were animals, I thought they were going to kill him," testified a passerby who witnessed the beating. He called the police to put the attackers to flight, before accompanying the victim to 24 du Faubourg.
According to our information, the two individuals also attacked another young man, shortly before, the same night, in Faubourg des Annonciades.
